Dans le cadre du colloque international Assertions identitaires et réappropriations symboliques en Inde, un débat sera organisé par Guillaume Sibertin-Blanc et Livio Boni autour de l’ouvrage de Ranabir Samaddar :

Dystopies urbaines, accumulation primitive et contestations urbaines : une rencontre avec Ranabir Samaddar .

Alors que plusieurs auteurs contemporains analysent la fonction stratégique de la grande ville globalisée dans des processus d’accumulation «par dépossession» du capital mondial, en insistant autant sur la caractère récurrent et cyclique de l’«accumulation primitive» marxienne que sur la généralisation du modèle de la «Zone Économique Spéciale» mis en place en Chine à la fin des années 70, Ranabir Samaddar et le Calcutta Research Group sont à l’origine d’une série de travaux de recherche, d’enquête militante et d’analyse théorique sur la forme que cette dépossession massive prend dans le développement de la ville contemporaine en Inde, et au Bengale en particulier.

Plus largement, cette rencontre nous permettra de revenir sur la question urbaine dans l’Inde contemporaine, entre affirmation des politiques néolibérales; réactualisation de la question paysanne et des luttes contre la confiscation de la terre, et invention de nouvelles formes de contestation dans les grandes métropoles, après le déclin des grandes organisations classiques du mouvement ouvrier.

Urban dystopias, primitive accumulation and the urban protest in contemporary India: encounter with Ranabir Samaddar.

While several contemporary authors analyze the strategic function of the globalized cities in processes of accumulation ” by dispossession ” of the Capital, by insisting on recurring and cyclic character of the ” primitive Marxian accumulation ” and on the generalization of the model of the ” Special Economic Zone ” set up in China at the end of the 70s, Ranabir Samaddar and Calcutta Research Group is at the origin of a series of research works, militant investigations and of theoretical analysis concerning the shape that this massive dispossession takes in the development of the contemporary city in India, and in West Bengal in particular.

More widely, this meeting will allow us to return on the urban question in contemporary India, between the assertion of the neoliberal policies; the actuality of the peasant question, the fights against the seizure of the farmland, and invention of new forms of protest in the big metropolis, after the decline of the classic organizations of the labor movement.
